Perception Response Evaluation (PRE)

CMINDS® incorporates a Perception-Response Evaluation (PRE) module. The PRE serves several purposes:

CMINDS® incorporates a Perception-Response Evaluation (PRE) module. The PRE serves to familiarize and orient the subject to the computer testing schema prior to protocol administration and to meet minimum perceptual and response requirements for taking the tests. Accordingly, the PRE provides essential data on whether the subject is capable of:

  1. reading the computerized text
  2. following both simple and complex instructions (in both the auditory and visual modalities)
  3. pressing reaction time (RT) buttons
  4. entering graphical responses on the monitor screen with an electronic pen

The PRE provides several rudimentary measures of bilateral reaction time to:

  1. simple, nonverbal RT
  2. simple RT to verbal stimuli ("left," "right")
  3. complex RT to verbal stimuli

For simple, nonverbal RT, a yellow square moves to the left- or right-hand side of the screen, requiring left-handed or right-handed response, respectively.

For simple RT, the subject presses the button in the user’s left-hand in response to visual presentation of the word "Left" and presses the button in the user’s right-hand in response to the word "Right". For complex RT to verbal stimuli, the instruction is reversed.

The PRE also hosts a brief motor pursuit task that detects tremor and related dyskinesias.
